The Gables Feedback

  1. Bad experience with receptionist 20th May 26

On ringing the bell to enter the Gables I was met with an abrupt, rude, unkempt woman, who almost shouted “have you got an appointment” before I got through the door. I answered her, before I had chance to finish my sentence she said sign in and pointed to the book. After a few minutes she opened the hatch and said who are you seeing, didn’t ask me to approach the hatch, no privacy or confidentiality. I answered her. The next thing she said there was no record of the appointment and as I had asked for an appointment to be moved it was remade for July. She shouted this while speaking on the phone who I imagine was a colleague. This woman needs a customer awareness course and to be removed to the basement as I’m sure she makes people with mental health issues worse with her uncaring and unpleasant unprofessional behaviour. I feel bad enough, but to be made to feel stupid in front of other patients is unacceptable.

  2. Dangerous uncaring service.

I was initially under a team at C of E centre then moved over to the Gables. OMDG ! I was under a good doctor then put over to another who comes across as being smarmy and dismissive. Transport was organised for todays appt. It was an ambulance vehicle with a holding cell in it, really? Not only did that scare me but left me embarassed in full view of my nosey neighbours. Appt ran late and an OT was at my appt without asking me first. Despite explaining how ill I have been, they decide to sign post me to GP mental health nurse. Over a year ago I was offered a support worker. I never got one. Even asked if I have gone through menopause. Diagnosis is EUPD. Mentioned risk of self harm they dismissed it and DISCHARGED ME. This service is leaving people in danger. I walked out in a distressed state.

  3. Absolutely atrocious!

My care co-ordinator has unassigned herself from me and so I have been left without mental health support during an extremely difficult time going through court proceedings regarding my children.

I would like to report a specific staff member too please.

  4. Horrific and disgusting and traumatised me

My experience has destroyed my mental health. I have been made to feel less than human. I feel villified, bullied and broken inside. And have lost all trust. They are unprofessional and incompetent

It is true they make up everything……

***** is the most insecure, emotionally abusive and cruel mental health nurse or CPN I have ever met, she bullied me for anything such as needing the toilet due to physical problems and my learning difficulties.

******* is extremely vengeful and deceitful and wicked and can not tell the truth

I was sexually abused, and blackmailed for four months by my neighbour. And he has stalked me for one and a half years. As he is under the mental health team too. I am screamed at in the face and not supposed to tell the police anything he does to me or I am punished faulse reports written on my NHS app.

The police letter of how dangerous my situation is and findings disagree with the lies from the mental health team. My abuser and stalker has two stalking orders against him and there is so much supporting evidence. And are firmly on my side. I offered the mental health team video evidence, but they had no desire to see as it went against their agenda and fixed narrative.

My stalker they protect is a crack cocaine addict with a history of extreme violence. I am a much younger more vulnerable autistic girl. My stalker and the gable’s broke my spirit. I never believed something like this could happen..

      Dear Louise

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am very sorry to hear how deeply this has affected you. It is not acceptable for anyone receiving care from our services to feel treated in this way, and I want to acknowledge the seriousness of what you have shared.
Your experience matters and we recognise that when someone reaches out to mental health services, they are often at their most vulnerable. You should have felt listened to, respected and supported. I am very sorry that this was not your experience.
We would like to understand what went wrong and identify whether practice, communication, or processes fell below the standard you should expect. Learning from experiences such as yours is essential if we are to improve and prevent similar occurrences.
If you are willing, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns in more detail. This can include support through our Patient Advice & Liaison Team PALS team, who can also explain the options available should you wish to pursue this further. You can contact PALS on [email protected] or by telephone number 0800 085 7935.
Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback.

  5. Alzheimers disease

Not fit for purpose. This team makes a phone call to an alzheimers patient who is deep into the diesease with specialist diagnosis. Anyone who knows about alzheimers will know its complexity and surely realise that a two minute phone call isn’t care at all. I see it as a tick boxing exercise. I tell them everything is fine and they are happy with that. This service needs to wake up and the team needs to be professional and pragmatic in order to earn the salaries the staff are being paid. They need to speak to the carers of the patient who are usually the family members and do a home visit to asses the situation with family involved, we are the ones who are dealing with common care and crisis care!, A phone call is obsolete for an alzheimers patient diagnosed 7 years ago. Please inspect the gables and look at the service for alzheimers and dementia patients .

  6. GABLES BRAINTREE = DIABOLICAL

I wish to make a formal complaint directly at the Gables, Braintree, Essex – please email me on how to do this

  7. ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL

ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL, THE GABLES CLEARLY PREFER SUICIDE TO PREVENTION
Urgent Complaint Put in: Failure of Care at The Gables Mental Health Unit, Braintree, Essex.
Formal Complaint about the ongoing failure of The Gables Mental Health Unit to provide adequate care for my severe mental illness, Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD).
Discharged in January without any intervention other than Mr *********’s first appointment, discharged without any help whatsoever, and when I received the discharge letter this sent me into a very dangerous Crisis, and even then no one at the Gables has actually helped me, other than a minor increase in meds which felt like a way of shoving me out of the door. Mr ********* was rude telling me to reduce what I had to say into bitesize, preferring to poke at this pc with his password (twice) rather than pay attention to what I had to say. He then blurted out ‘about the time on the pc and that we would have to do this another time’ and as I had been left in Crisis for over two weeks without ANY HELP WHATSOEVER, thank god for my friend ****** who found me, I refused stating (whilst looking at my watch and them him) ‘will you look at the time’ and backed it up with how incredibly rude he was being towards me, bearing in mind that it was HIS & ****’s fault that I was in this mess in the first place, as they had 14 weeks to do something to help me, but instead preferred to discharge me with NO HELP AT ALL.
Mr ********* then chucked increased meds at me, saying it would help, but as it had made no difference a week later, and he was on holiday, with no covering locum/doctor, nothing, and here I am two weeks further on from his appointment, still in the same Crisis, trying to hold on, and had it not been for my friend a second time today, I was close to giving up completely, there is only so much a person can take, and I would have thought that my previous 5/6 attempts would have underlined that I am not messing about, this is deadly serious, not that the Gables would care of course, it feels that they would prefer suicide, then it would be one less moaning mess removed from their books.
As for an up side, there isn’t one, well apart from the psychiatrist tilting his shoulder trying to stick the blame onto the MH nurse, when in actual fact it was BOTH of them….

  8. Better post making complaint

My new care co and psychiatrist, **** ****** and Dr **** are trauma informed, including regarding autistic trauma. Can’t fault them!

However, this only occured after I had to make a complaint about a physicians associate making a mess of a blood test and retraumatising me.
