Chelmer Village Surgery Feedback

  1. Reception staff appalling

I would give minus 1 if I could. I am carer to a close family member with a diagnosed mental health condition. Recently I called reception and requested the gp call my family member directly due to some concerns I had, but they flatly refused to pass on the message based on data protection! I had not asked for disclosure of any personal information merely for the gp to call my family member back that day. I have spoken to the gp in the past and he is aware of all the background information so was baffled they would not pass on the message. The receptionists kept repeating they can’t get the gp to call because of data protection! I am also GDPR and data protection trained and legislation does allow the passing of information in some cases where someone’s well-being is at risk. I am confident there would have been no breach of data protection and even if there were it would have been valid. I’m really concerned that vulnerable people out there are at risk due to processes like this and This is why a&e departments are at breaking point, there are too many road blocks in the way to speaking to a gp. You shouldn’t have to keep going round in circles calling 111 who direct you back to the gp. I’ve made a complaint and awaiting a response let’s see if I get one!

  2. Good GP surgery

Have been at this GP surgery for 3-4 years now. I live with a long term mental health condition, and the GP’s are supportive and helpful when needed. Also able to order repeat prescriptions online which is useful. Can usually get a same-day appointment if you phone in morning or after 2pm. [What was good about the service? How do you think this service could be improved? – edited by HWE] GP is practical and offers good advice and information when needed, but also knows when I need to be referred to another service, which saves a lot of time in the long run. Always friendly reception staff. Waiting area is comfortable and clean.
