‘Cervical Screening as a Trauma Survivor’ nominated for National Film Award

We’re pleased to share that our ‘Cervical Screening as a Trauma Survivor’ film, produced in collaboration with the Healthwatch Essex Trauma Ambassador Group, has been nominated to win a National Film Award!

With nearly 1 in 3 people not attending their cervical screening appointments, the Trauma Ambassador Group (TAG) recognised a need to highlight the challenges that trauma survivors may experience.

Working closely with the group, we produced a short film to demonstrate the trigger-points for trauma survivors and educate professionals on how appointments could be improved to make patients more comfortable. The film walks through the process of a cervical screening, outlining potential triggering moments during an appointment.

Michelle, a nurse, suggests improvements that could be made, including the language used, the set-up of the room, and taking time with an appointment. She also runs through the equipment used and the process of a cervical screening, the short clip of which can be found on our TikTok.

When initially creating the film, Della, a Trauma Ambassador, shared the importance of the film: “Too often women are given scare tactics around cervical screening… We need to be heard and supported and have trauma informed clinics available or a Trauma Card that is understood by practitioners.”
