Healthwatch Essex takes on Movember

This November three of our very own Healthwatch Essex team are taking the plunge and growing a moustache for Movember. Dan Potts (Engagement Officer), Dr John Day (Research Manager) and Gary Hyams (Chair of Board) will all be giving it a go and growing their best tash for a good cause.

Movember is a charity where men globally grow a moustache for the month of November to raise money for male related conditions. This year they are focusing on male mental health, suicide prevention, testicular and prostate cancer.

Healthwatch Essex is proud to be taking part in the fundraiser and will be documenting the gents jobs on how their upper lip is coming along across the month on our social media. We couldn’t think of three better men to be taking part and representing us in raising awareness.

Our Chair of Trustees, Gary shared why he wants to get involved, “The reason I am supporting Movember and will be growing a mo is because I have a prostate tumour myself which is controlled by medication currently.

“I am fortunate mine was discovered at an early stage and will hopefully stay under the control of medication for years to come. However, many men are not so lucky and ignore the signs that something is wrong and pay the ultimate price for ignoring it. I want to raise the awareness to help more men be safe”.

Our information and Signposting team are on hand if you’d like to speak to anybody regarding any of the topics shared. You can contact them through the Speak to our Team section.
