COVID-19 – Understanding the impact on BAME communities

The Government has released a report giving insight into factors affecting the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.

The report outlines the factors that may be influencing the impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities and strategies for addressing these inequalities. It supports the rapid review of disparities in the risk and outcomes of COVID-19.The report makes a number of recommendations, which will form the basis of the next steps being taken forward by the Equalities Minister.

Minister for Equalities, Kemi Badenoch, said:

“This government is rightly taking seriously the initial findings from the PHE (Public Health England) report published earlier this week. However, it is also clear that much more needs to be done to understand the key drivers of the disparities identified and the relationships between the different risk factors.

“That is why I am now taking this work forward, which will enable us to make a real difference to people’s lives and protect our communities from the impact of the coronavirus.”

She has outlined the full scope of the work and made the full report available here.
