How well do you breathe? This may sound like an odd question as when we are feeling okay we generally take breathing for granted. Unfortunately for many people, however, breathing is a daily challenge.
This is Breathe Easy Week in the UK, aiming to raise awareness and focus on lung health. The British Lung Foundation (BLF) state that one in five people in the UK are affected by lung disease. There are many different lung conditions, including asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Sarcoidosis.
Most of us get out of breath when we push ourselves actively, but persistent breathlessness or feeling out of breath for no obvious reason can be a sign of something more serious. There are lots of external factors which can affect individuals with lung conditions, such as diet, air pollution and the weather. You should always check with your GP if you have any concerns about your breathing. The BLF have launched an online breath test, which can be accessed here, which should take no longer than five minutes and is completely confidential.
There is support and advice available for people living with lung conditions, including the Breathe Easy Support Groups which operate in Braintree, Canvey Island, Colchester, Harlow and Saffron Walden. Details of these, and other information, can be obtained by calling us on 0300 500 1895, email at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop us a line using any of the contact details that can be found here.
We look forward to hearing from you.
