Healthwatch Harriet has been working with Eastern Academic Health Science Network (Eastern AHSN) on a new film to be launched during Self Care week.
Following her rise to stardom grilling senior leaders about some of the most important issues in health care today, Eastern AHSN launched Healthwatch Harriet’s latest broadcasting masterpiece – “What on earth is self-care?” at their event ‘Embracing Self-Care: One Year on’, on 16th November at Newmarket Race Course.
Self-care or self-management is a term we are using more often to describe the changes we need to bring about to empower people to manage their own health and wellbeing. It is also an important priority for the six Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) in the eastern region.
But what does self-care actually mean? How does it work and whose responsibility is it? Known for her no-nonsense style, Eastern AHSN turned to 10-year old Harriet to interview some of the region’s most active advocates for self-care, to get some answers.
“Supporting people to develop the right skills, knowledge and confidence to understand and manage their health and wellbeing, working collaboratively with health care professionals, has been a big focus of our work for the past 12 months” says Victoria Corbishley, Director of Transformation at Eastern AHSN. “Of course, there is more that we can do to enhance self-care and as Harriet summarised, it’s something we can all get involved in”.
Eastern AHSN is committed to support enhanced self-care in the region and is looking to back a small number of new community based projects that focus on improving the overall health or wellbeing of the local population. The Healthwatch Harriet film on “What on earth is a Vangaurd?’ was recently placed runner-up in the Innovative Concept category for the Haelo Film Festival 2017.
